New Anti-Theft Disclosure Document for British Columbia Dealers

As previously communicated in a Dealer Bulletin issued on November 6, 2012, the Insurance Council of British Columbia (“Council”) issued a Notice on October 5, 2012 (“Notice”) outlining a number of new requirements relating to the issuance of restricted general insurance licenses to motor vehicle dealers in British Columbia. For reference, a copy of the Insurance Council’s Notice can be found here: Insurance Council Notice

As outlined in the Notice and our earlier Bulletin, one of the new requirements of Council is that dealers obtain a Consumer Information Disclosure Document (“Disclosure Document”) from customers purchasing anti-theft products in British Columbia. A copy of the Disclosure Document prescribed by Council can be found here: Disclosure Document

Effective April 1, 2013, an execution copy of the Disclosure Document will be included with the anti-theft contract that is printed by the Digital Resource Centre. The Disclosure Document must be signed by customers purchasing anti-theft policies and must be maintained by the dealer as part of the customer contract package.
